Re: Indesign to PDF Erorrs: how to find the bad page that is stopping the process?

Divide and Conquer. Yes, a very tried and true method. My next step.

I was hoping that there were some other resources that I was unaware of. I keep thinking that there should be a record, a log of some sort that tracks the process of exporting to PDF, that can be examined.

Sometimes when printing fails with a multipage document, there is a progress window that indicates which page is processing, and when the process breaks down, you can see which page is the offender. I was hoping for something similar, instead of the generic "Export Failed" message.

Thanks -

Check in the Output section of InDesign's Print dialog window under "Color:". If it says Composite Gray then change it to "Composite CMYK".

I tried and it's still printing in grayscale.

It says composite CMYK and the Color Management is set to let Indesign manage colors.

You could open the background tasks panel and see if you get closer by watching that.

Re: Indesign to Esko (Nexus)

Ladies and gents:

Problem solved: I tried different pdf versions all the way to 1.4, no avail.

I decided to go to the .ai file and work it.

In side the .ai file was a pattern set to several items. When using indesign, the elements had to be rotated to fit an imposition layout.

When I went to .ai to work the file I used the arrow and key functions to rotate the art board. It didn't work no way no how.

But when using the rotate function window. there is a check box calling for patterns to rotate with the image, please check.

I did that. I then flattened transparencies and expanded the points. It worked.

I still believe the problem would have been taken care of in a newer version of Esko or a Kodak rip.

I believe in Indesign and try to use it every day in every way but in this case I had to use .ai to solve the issue.

Pass it along.

Bleed Issues

Hello, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm fairly new at this, but I have set up my bleeds, however, when the page prints out, the bleed prints correctly on the bottom of the page, but I have a big white border on the right side and top. I thought maybe it was a printer setup issue, but I just can't figure out where I went wrong. 2019-08-02.png

Is your printer capable of borderless printing?

It is going to the commercial printer for printing, but the export looks like this.

You need to select bleed during the export process as well. Export (Adobe PDF Print) > Marks and Bleed > Select "Use Document Bleed Settings"

Indesign screen keeps moving

Every time I'm working in InDesign with a document with several pages (side-by-side), I use the quick key "space bar to show hand" to move about the page or to move over to the next page. When I release the space bar — the page keeps moving!!
This is VERY annoying and I can't find any comments on how to stop this. There are times the page continues to several other pages and I have to do the "go-to" to get back where I was.

Help please!!!!

How can I spread 500 unique business cards across 24 12x18" sheets?

I have 500 3.5x2" business card pages, all of them are unique. How can I generate a PDF with multiple of these on the same printed sheet with crop marks? Specifically on 12x18" sheets, so 3 columns and 7 rows.

I will take anything at this point, even if it means using software other than InDesign.

Select PDF/X-4

Supply single pages, not spreads, and tick Crop Marks (unless your printer doesn't want them).

Re: Tables not printing at 100% black

I'm using the InDesign print book setting, to a PS file then converting it to a PDF for printing. I have checked all setting and they say composite RGB or composite CMYK.

thanks for the suggestion, and I have checked that and all set 100%. Any more thoughts?

Are you seeing something like the picture shown below?

If this is it, you've invoked Power Zoom. It's a feature to navigate to another part of your layout. It can happen in two ways: (1) select the Hand tool, the hold down the (left) mouse button and press. After a second, InDesign displays a red frame in the window. You can move the mouse to change the area selected and you can make the frame larger or smaller with the mouse scroll wheel. You can end it by releasing the mouse at the new view. (2) It can also happen if you hold down the Space Bar, normally used to pan around. If you long press your left mouse button, rather than just dragging it it invokes Power Zoom.

Solution: You can avoid it if you just drag, rather then long-press-then drag, your mouse.
