Problem with cross references[Renamed]

Hola,

¿Alguna sugerencia?

¡Gracias de antemano!

Willi Adelberger First, I completely agree with you. The book feature is there for a reason and when you have a project like the OP, booking is FOR SURE the right way to do it and we should suggest the right ways to do things for sure. But remember that sometimes people what to do things "their way" and when we offer best practices and standards without offering responses to their requests, we are losing sight of the purpose of the boards. To offer solutions (and best practices).

Again, 100% agree that keeping it as a book is the right way to do it. When you have not worked with books or you are a single user, books can seem overkill and unnecessary. But for sure, for sure, they have a place and are the first and best way to manage larger projects.

Creating a table of contents from multiple documents

I have 3 InDesign documents that are published as one pdf.  I would like one table of contents to start on the 3rd page of the 1st of the 3 documents.  Is this possible to automate?  or, What is the best way to do this?

Thanks!

Yes, If you add all of the documents to a book.

Your image isn't anchored. You'll have to Edit > Cut it, then set an insertion point in the text where you want it anchored and Edit > Paste.

Or, upgrade to a modern version of InDesign that will let you know this in a snap by dragging a frame icon right into the text.

Hi Liesbeth,

We’re so sorry to hear about this. I am hopeful that the issue was fixed. If not, please confirm which operating system (the exact version of Windows/MAC) you are using? I'm afraid that CS applications has been discontinued and is no longer compatible with today's operating systems. Any attempts to troubleshoot the install could result in it becoming unusable. In case you have it installed on a compatible operating system (System requirements | Older versions of InDesign ), then please try resetting preferences for InDesign (Set preferences in Adobe InDesign ).

Please note: Resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Feel free to let us know if you still need assistance.

Regards,

Srishti

Since a few days I have problems with the Indesign control panel. When I want to change a font and I want to open the dropdown box, nothing happens. Same with the other dropdown boxes or settings: I can't select anything. What is the solution for this ???

Good to know.  That's part one.  Thanks!

The second part is the how.  I created a book, but I can't figure out how to then create a table of contents in the book; the Table of Contents menu is not available for the book.  Do I need to create a table of contents in each document first?  (I've tried using the manual, but it's no help here.)  And is there a trick to get it where I want it in the 1st document?

Hi Greta:

  1. Add the three indd. files to the book.
  2. Save the book.
  3. Open document 1, navigate to a blank page where you want to add the Table of Contents
  4. Layout > Table of Contents
  5. Set up the table of contents settings as desired but do not forget the enable the checkbox for Include Book Documents.Screen Shot 2019-04-01 at 1.56.16 PM.png
  6. Click on OK and flow the TOC onto the blank page(s).

Panel UI corruptions can sometimes be fixed by trashing your InDesign Caches folder. On Widows should be here:

C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\Caches\

Barb jumped it but note that you must click the more options button to show the Include Book Documents choice.

thanks. Do you have a link how to do so. I got a modrn version as well, but I'm used to CS4.

Use line tool or underline??

Hello all!

I have always been under the impression that it is always better to draw

lines with the line tool (in a form for example) instead of using the

underline key either manually or as a tab leader. Is that the truth? In some

cases I have seen gaps in the lines when the underline key is used. Do you

all have any thoughts or input for me? Why or why not is it better to use

the line tool as opposed to the underline option?

Thanks!

Elissa:

Did you notice that the A Master page thumbnails are missing, and that there is a large gap where they should be? It sounds like you are back on track, but in case this returns—or some other oddity—here's a reference for dealing with damaged InDesign files:

Good morning gentlemen.

Thank you both for your responses.

Steve, thanks for your suggestion. I will post my query there.

Once I understand the cause of this, I will be sure to put the solution back here.

Eric, unfortunately the pallet appears the same regardless of if a library contains assets or not.

I have opened it in a modern version of indisign (I'm used to the old one) and there's a sign on top left which locks it probably in the position of that page, so it isn't anchored in the text. Can I unlock this? How ? Many thanks to all of you for the kind support! (its now German but it means the same (verankert=anchored) 2 Unbenannt.JPG
