Yeah that's a tricky one On the Mac it's "Command+click the swatch" to deselect it; I see you are on Windows, so it's probably "Ctrl+click". Scratch the above, that's only good for Character Styles....

Far more likely somebody added marks manually. It's not uncommon to do so iin cases where automatic marks aren't exactly what is required.
