How do I scale margins in alternate layout?

I have a book with 300 pages that I want to make in a smaller format. I used the scale rule when I made the alternate layout, but the margins are still the same. So how do I scale them with an easy click? I know I can do it in the masterpage, but how do I then force all 300 pages to go within the new margin?
