Re: Picture changed

I made a copy of the file by using 'save as'; all links appeared to be okay; only by going thru all the pictures in the book—after it was printed did I find the changed picture. The photo went fromcolor.jpgto thisb.w.jpg

I did the exact same 'save as' again with the original file and the image didn't change even after quitting and restarting. I am now running InD 5.5 on 10.8.4.

Any chance you are on Windows and the image is a CMYK JPEG file?

Is there a Microsoft Word Add-On that works like the GREP search function in InDesign?

Is there any more clarification on this issue? It is frustrating that (1) the software does not tell you WHICH image and (2) WHAT is wrong with the image. Like teloscientist I have a document with hundreds of images. I used Jongware's divide and conquer method to identify the problem page. There are three jpegs of reasonable size (9 - 16mb) on this page. I opened and resaved all of these images in Photoshop and I am still getting the error. Now what?

Use the same divide and conquer method on the page. Size o fthe image is not necessarily an indicator of the problem.

Got a strange character after place a Word doc.

I get a "strange" character after importing from a Word doc.

It can be seen in the attached graph just before the text " CONSTITUTINGSOULS"

If I delete the paragraph in the Word doc the strange character still apears in another location!!

What is it? How can I avoid it?

Thanks!!

Looks like a Text Anchor hyperlink destination marker.

Thank you for the swift response Peter. That's just it... I cannot surmise what the problem could even be. All of the linked jpegs perform fine in photoshop and windows picture viewer. It would be very helpful in InDesign told you what exactly the problem is. Using the divide and conquer method I resaved one of the apparent error jpegs as a .tiff in photoshop.  That seemed to do the trick, but now apparently there are more error jpegs.

Might be worth a trip through .idml ( see Remove minor corruption by exporting ), but I suspect you're going to need to do divide and conquer again.

Do you, by chance, use Suitcase for font management? If so try turning off the auto-activation plugin.

That's what I was afraid of, thanks for heading off my continued efforts to make it work though : )

I have a jpeg image that I'm trying to place on a double page spread on indesign.

If you are trying to place it on the spread try making a frame first and placing into the frame rather than directly on the page.

So draw an empty frame:

And with it selected place your jpeg:

Then set the fitting of the frame to Fit Content Proportionately.

It may be that your 5906pixel image is set to 72ppi, which isn't unusual from digital cameras—that makes its starting output width 82 inches.

Thanks Peter. I will try what is suggested in that link. It seems like there are some other issues with this document. Now during export (Generating PDF) the progress bar just freezes. I do not know what suitcase is. I am running InDesign on Windows 7 if that helps

I tried the the .inx recovery method from the link above on my indd file. Afterwards, the InDesign file still got hung up on a pdf during export so I turned that into a raster (jpeg). Now I am back to using conquer and divide to determine the other problem jpegs. This method is very inefficient if there are multiple problem jpegs. I basically have to go one page at a time and each page has multiple images. This is extremely frustrating. I cannot believe how much time I am spending on this with no end in sight. Especially since the file exported without problems yesterday.

I am having this issue as well:

Known Issue #4: Invalid images in files. When trying to print, save, or PDF, an error message pops up saying “InDesign has encountered an invalid .jpg. Please save the file with different formatting and relink in your document;” followed by the “InDesign has encountered a problem and needs to close” error. It then force closes. When trying to reopen and after updating, you then get an error message that says “Error encountered while reading jpeg image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave with different settings and try again.” The file then becomes corrupted.

Additional Info:

  • Even after updating the file, sometimes it will still say an image is invalid

My pages spread for my magazine read backward. for example they read [3-2], [5-4], [7-6] instead of [2-3], [4-5], [6-7]. And my first page starts from the left position instead of right. How can I fix this?

how to line up a curved path to a straight line?

Hey everyone,

This has been driving me crazy for a few hours, so please help.  I have a curved path that I am trying to line up with a straight line.  Instead of snapping middle to middle, it wants to snap the top edge to the middle, like so:

What can I do?

Select the straight line and on the stroke panel/Align Stroke/Align Stroke to Inside or if you want to do it with the curve path instead choose Align Stroke to Outside.

Are you able to share the original photo to test it? You can use dropbox or the like and post the link here.

Are you saying that is what my error report means? I've never seen that particular message, only: Adobe Indesign CC 2014 has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution.
